“PADDY”, FLOOR LAMP

This floor lamp is inspired from the old paddy rices of Myanmar.
In the oldest days, huge teak constructions used for stocking big quantities of rice were everywhere in Myanmar. They used to move these structures form place to place depending on the emplacement of the rice cultivations and also could sell them. Today, very few are left, many are burnt like common wood to respond to everyday needs and no more are constructed because of the high price of the teak wood.

The support wood used in this floor lamp is a part of the support structure of an old paddy rice, 200-300 years old.

Every lamp is unique, every piece of wood is differently cut, has old incisions made by the foresters when they counted the trees, also painted white Myanmar numbers are on some of them, which I re-painted with a red brillant paint. Most woods are hardwoods, like “Jungle wood”, a very large diameter tree growing in the jungle, having very thick foliage, when it’s raining you can protect yourself under it, no drop can reach you. When the wind or breeze blows all the drops come down like as if it’s raining………….

Only 7 prototypes made. Limited series product. By principle MAKHI doesn’t destroy existing structures, only buys already destroyed ones.

You can light it, sit on it and even use it like a low table!
